Installation of Redirect Ninja

Redirect Ninja - Easy 404 can be downloaded and installed from the official Shopify App Store. Once you click the “Install” button you will be displayed with an additional confirmation page. This confirmation page displays all of the required permissions that the app needs in order to function.

Below are the App permissions required and their reasons for being required to utilize Redirect Ninja:

View personal Data: In order to provide email notifications Redirect Ninja requires access to your Store email

‍View and edit store Data: The only store data that Redirect Ninja needs access to is:

• Online Store Navigation to write redirects
• View & Edit your online store pages |

After clicking the “Install” button from this modal the app will be automatically installed on your Shopify Store.

Getting Started with Redirect Ninja

After the app is installed you will be taken to the dashboard page within the app. Here you will see the onboarding component with a list of steps to get you fully up and running with the app.

Enabling the App Embed

To help find broken pages on your store, Redirect Ninja needs to add a small piece of code (called an App Embed) to your store. Don't worry - this is completely automatic and only takes one click! App embeds get installed into your Shopify’s store theme and can provide some additional features to your theme. This is required in order for the app to properly function.The first thing we need to do is click the “Enabled App Embed’ button to get it added to your theme. Once you click this button you will be automatically redirected to theme editor / customizer and the app embed will be automatically enabled. You should see the following banner at the bottom of the page.

You can also view all of the app embeds & their statuses that you currently have on your theme by clicking the third icon down on the left hand navigation:

After the app embed as been enabled we can head back over to the app in your Shopify Admin and mark the first step as complete by clicking on the outlined circle. Please note that this step does not automatically get completed you must manually click on the button to have it be marked as complete.

Verifying the App Embed is Working

Now we can verify that the app embed is working by clicking on the second step: “Visit a Broken Link”.

Clicking on the “View Example Broken Link” button will take you to a broken / 404 page on your store. After you click on this button you should be able to see that broken link being logged in the “Recent Broken Links” card. This verifies that the app embed is properly installed on your Shopify theme.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

• Why isn’t the first step getting marked as completed?
  • The steps in the onboarding widget are not automatic, you need to manually click the dashed outline circle to mark the step as completed. Note this is not required.
• Will the app embed affect my online store performance?
  • No the app embed will not affect your store performance at all! It’s job is to quietly run in the background and only kick into action when a 404 is discovered.
• Do I have to install the app embed?
  • Yes in order for the following to function you need to install the app embed:
    • Automatic redirects
    • Automatic 404 logging
    • Wildcard
    • Template Rules
• Do I need to know how to code to install Redirect Ninja?
  • No coding knowledge required. Redirect Ninja installs automatically with just a few clicks. Leave the coding stuff to us!
